The 全球机遇办公室 (OGO) tracks and reviews health, 安全, and security issues that have the potential for impacting newbb电子平台 student 旅行. OGO’s risk management team also responds to emergencies impacting students, faculty and staff on University-sponsored 旅行.

OGO’s risk management team monitors world events, news reports, U.S. Department of State (USDOS) 旅行 information and advisories, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 旅行 advisories and warnings as well as information provided by the University's international security partner, 国际SOS.

Specifically, OGO monitors 全球 information and events where:

  • The University sponsors international and domestic study away programs.
  • University students conduct independent, university-sponsored or -related international 旅行.

如果条件允许的话, OGO will initiate a review and assessment of proposed program and student 旅行 and bring it to the “远离学习”风险评估委员会 (SARAC) for review.

Thresholds for risk assessment and review requirements are outlined in the SARAC的运作政策及程序[PDF]. Review and approval of student and student program 旅行 is required 

一个健康, 安全, and security risk review and pre-旅行 approval is always required for all 俄亥俄州 student 旅行 under the following circumstances: 

  1. U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory of Level 3 or 4 for country or locality 
  2. 国际SOS 旅行 risk rating of HIGH or EXTREME 
  3. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Travel 健康 Notices Levels 3 or 4

学生独立规划, university-sponsored 旅行 to high-risk destinations must seek and receive university approval 旅行前. 这包括本科生, graduate and medical students 旅行ing abroad for activities such as research, 医疗旋转, 志愿者或工作经历, 实习, 会议, direct enroll or through a third-party provider program (i.e.，联盟计划). This requirement does not extend to personal 旅行 such as vacations.

  1. To initiate the Independent Traveler Risk Assessment Process, students should complete the Independent Risk Review form in Qualtrics: http://OHIO.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5z36qX05IsZbaHs.

  2. The 全球机遇办公室' 健康 and 安全 team will compile your response, alongside a short location and situation report about your 旅行 destination(s). During this time, you may be contacted for additional information about your proposed experience.

  3. The “远离学习”风险评估委员会 (SARAC) will review the documentation and will issue a 旅行/no 旅行 recommendation to the Office of the Provost. 

  4. The Office of the Provost makes a final decision regarding 旅行. Once this decision has been received, you will be notified of the outcome via OGOriskmanagement@俄亥俄州.edu. 

Note that while we try to avoid 旅行 disruptions, the onsite health and security may change after this review process has concluded, and a previously granted 旅行 approval may later be revoked.
