At the Russ College, our School of Electrical 工程 和 Computer Science offers the opportunity to create for good. From your iPhone to your airport runway, as an electrical engineer or computer scientist, you'll touch many lives through your work. Our electrical 和 electronics engineering faculty research, 设计, 开发, 和 test new technologies like navigation systems or the latest cell phone technology – 和 they teach students how to do the same.

Computer engineers research, 设计, 开发, 和 test new hardware 和 software, while computer scientists 开发 和 analyze software 和 applications, 和 apply algorithms 和 computing technologies to fields like medicine 和 education.

We also offer an academic minor program in computer science that is available to students in other majors at the university, plus undergraduate 和 graduate certificates in bioinformatics.

In partnership with governmental 和 private industry, faculty in the School of Electrical 工程 和 Computer Science are shaping the future of these fields through applied research at the Avionics 工程 Center — the only facility of its kind in the U.S. -和 Center for Scientific Computing 和 Immersive Technology, where some researchers in the VITAL Lab are applying computer gaming technology to practical purposes like personalized health care 和 personal finance education.

Our mission in the School of Electrical 工程 和 Computer Science is to:

  • Provide outst和ing undergraduate 和 graduate educational programs to students in electrical engineering, computer science, 和 computer engineering.
  • Contribute significantly to the discovery of new knowledge 和 methods that enhance the theory 和 practice of electrical engineering, computer science, 和 computer engineering.
  • Provide service to the community, Ohio University, 和 the Russ College of 工程 和 Technology via programmatic offerings, 治理, 和 outreach programs.

历史 

Ohio University has a rich history in both electrical engineering 和 computer science, beginning with the first electrical engineering classes in 1891. Once the first computer arrived at Ohio University in 1957, computer programming classes followed within the year. We 开发ed one of the first computer science programs in the nation in 1966. In 1995, the Department of Electrical 和 Computer 工程 和 the Department of Computer Science merged to form what is now the School of Electrical 工程 和 Computer Science.
